History was made in 1962 when Bill Richards and his three sons, Mark, Kurt, and Eric opened a shop in the San Fernando Valley that was to be the very first inland surf and skateboard shop of the time. Now in our 46th year in business, Val Surf can pride ourselves as being the world's oldest and first surf-skate-snow shop that is still owned and operated by the same family.

At the top of our list of accomplishments and milestones would be the honor of being the very first Quiksilver, Hobie, and O'Neill dealer along with being on board with Burton Snowboards from the very beginning in 1977. We were awarded the "U.S.A. Retailer of the Year" by our Action Sports Industry, voted the "Best Snowboard Shop In The Western U.S.A." by the Snow Industry of America and inducted into the "Skateboard Hall of Fame" as the very first skateboard shop and mail order service. Val Surf, "The Original Board Shop" from the very beginning , has truly lived the lifestyle and contributed to creating the board sport craze that is being enjoyed by so many today. Your "Core" shop ... not a department store, sporting goods or opportunistic mall/chain operation.

Each of our Five store locations have become "home" to the local scene of celebrities, riders and enthusiasts, as well as being a hub for many of the professional athletes and companies that are driving our industries.
